Soocheon Lee holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Sangmyung University and an M.S. degree from the College of Pharmacy at Chung-Ang University, South Korea. During her master's studies, she specialized in continuous-flow chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. Her research focused on the development of a RuHAP packed-bed reactor for continuous-flow aerobic oxidation, as well as on evaluating the performance and long-term stability of the catalytic system. Through this work, she gained extensive experience in multiphase-flow reactor design and operation, reaction optimization, and catalyst evaluation, which fostered her broader interest in efficient and sustainable synthetic methodologies.
Her research interests encompass synthetic electrochemistry, C-H activation, and advanced reaction technologies, with a particular emphasis on developing efficient, practical, and sustainable approaches to organic synthesis. Through her participation in the Electrify-It network, she aims to further expand her expertise in electrosynthesis while exploring innovative methodologies that contribute to the advancement of sustainable organic chemistry.
DC2 will develop a new methodology to perform an electrocatalytic C-H activation employing Earth-abundant 3d transition metals as catalysts. This DC will overcome the intrinsic limitation of already-known ferra- and mangana-electrocatalytic methods that require the use of Grignard reagents as organometallic additives. Investigations will be oriented to the sustainability and safety of the method and the compatibility of functional groups for the selective C-H activation in complex molecules.
